my life as a single parent

Well...OK, that's sort of an exaggeration, I know. But to be honest, that's sort of how it's felt like this past month and a half!

Mitch has taken a lighter schedule flying at work to help his father renovate his parents' one-bedroom unit in Waikiki. The hotel is requiring every unit in the hotel pool to update the look of the rooms so rather than shell out tons of money to an outside contractor, Mitch's dad has hired Mitch to do the work.

And, since Mitch is basically working SOLO, it's taken a bit longer than expected, and I feel like I've been on my own in terms of taking care of the girls. On days he isn't flying, he's out the door by 8 a.m and we either met up with him for dinner at night or he would stay out there until 6 or 7 p.m. On days that he happened to be flying, he would be out the door at the same time but wouldn't come home until close to midnight! Not to complain, but being alone with the kids for the entire day can be pretty grueling for me (and, to a lesser degree, Mitch, too of course! Just kidding).

Well, at the beginning is the demolition. Ripping out carpet and cabinets all by yourself wasn't too easy...but I think it turned out the be the easiest part of the job!

Despite hiring outside help for the plumbing, carpeting and granite counter tops, pretty much everything else has been all Mitch. He laid the laminate flooring down, installed all the cabinets himself, and even built that custom table that jets out! The granite counter tops are covered in junk and rubbish at the moment, but it really does look beautiful!

The job is not quite finished yet (obviously)...just a lot of little things like fixtures and lighting, but with the major stuff out of the way, we can finally begin to see the end in sight!! As soon as the job is entirely finished, I'll post those pics. I'm sure it will look amazing! I'm so proud of my handy hubby! All the skills he learned while building our old house seems to have paid off!

And while we're on the subject of construction, Mitch took a rare break this morning to take the girls to Home Depot for their Kid's Workshop class. I guess they hold these fun workshops every month and Mitch really wanted to take the girls. I got a pleasantly quiet morning to myself (and Jolee, of course) while Mitch took Anna and Kela to make little wooden wheelbarrows at Home Depot! How cute is that?
